On r.e.m.’s official website, their sweetener foundation is described as having medium-buildable coverage, a natural-matte finish, and “supercharged hydration”. Now, from my experience with clients, I’m sure a lot of you are wondering how a foundation can be both hydrating AND matte. This is a common misconception within the beauty space. Let me explain. When a product is described as being hydrating, it’s most likely a water-based formula.

Water = Hydration

Oil = Moisture

When a product is matte, it’s usually formulated for oil-control. r.e.m.’s sweetener foundation has niacinamide as an ingredient specifically for that purpose. However, also has hydration-assisting ingredients such as glycerin, squalane, and sodium hyaluronate. This means it can provide hydration while keeping oils at bay.

My Opinion: r.e.m.’s sweetener foundation is a spectacular product that doesn’t get as much recognition as it deserves. With 60 diverse shades, it provides great inclusivity for a very large percentage of consumers. This has been my go-to base product for my wedding clients. The formula is fantastic for all skin types while leaving a radiant finish to the skin. If you decide to give it a try, be sure to shake well before use!
